How to Make the Text Bigger on Your iPhone
If you find yourself reaching for your reading glasses every time you check your iPhone, there’s an easier way. Your iPhone can show larger, bolder text in Messages, Mail, Calendar, Notes, Settings and many other apps.
These steps follow Apple’s current iPhone User Guide for iOS 27. On older versions, the same options are under Settings > Display & Brightness.
The Quick Way: Adjust Text Size
- Open the Settings app.
- Tap Appearance, then tap Text Size.
- Drag the slider to the right to make text bigger, or to the left to make it smaller.
Stop when the text feels comfortable to read.
Make Text Even Bigger
If the largest setting still isn’t enough:
- Open Settings and tap Accessibility.
- Tap Display & Text Size, then tap Larger Text.
- Turn on Larger Accessibility Sizes.
- Drag the slider to the size you want.
Apple notes that very large text can make some buttons harder to tap, so if an app starts to look crowded, nudge the slider back a step.
Make Text Bold
Thicker letters can be easier to read. Go to Settings > Appearance and turn on Bold Text.
Make Everything Bigger, Including Icons
Display Zoom enlarges text along with icons and buttons:
- Open Settings and tap Appearance.
- Tap Display Zoom, then choose Larger Text.
- Confirm by tapping Use Zoomed.
Change Text Size Without Leaving an App
You can add a Text Size control to Control Center, the panel of quick settings (on most iPhones, you open it by swiping down from the top-right corner of the screen). Then you can make text bigger right while you’re reading.
To add it, open Control Center, tap the plus button in the top-left corner, tap Add a Control, then choose Text Size.
More Help Seeing Your Screen
Your iPhone also has Zoom, which magnifies the whole screen, and Magnifier, which uses the camera like a magnifying glass for things like menus and labels. You’ll find Zoom under Settings > Accessibility, and you can find the Magnifier app by swiping down on the Home Screen and searching for “Magnifier.”
